Think of a buttery croissant, a flaky croissant or a hard, crumbled pastry, and France often comes to mind. But did you know that
Malaysia has its own pastry chef? As the director of The Bakers Workshop, a world-renowned studio, Michael Teh is one of the country’s leading bakers.
Students from all over the world flock to his classroom, fueled by the social media frenzy surrounding his online presence. Oldman Teh, as he prefers to be called, now has almost 250,000 followers on Instagram! The 59-year-old, a former hairdresser, discovered his passion for baking 20 years ago.
“When I was cycling in different countries, I saw a bakery and I stopped there for a long time,” he told FMT Lifestyle. “I came back to Malaysia and started experimenting, but before that I didn’t know how to make anything, not even a loaf of bread.”
