Makan Kitchen’s iftar buffet blends old and new favourites

Restaurants and cafes across the country pull out all the stops to serve delicious food during the fasting month.

If you’re spoiled for choice, why not head to the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur for an epic food adventure? This year’s theme for the two Ramadan meals at their Makan Kitchen restaurant is Merentasi Tradisi: Sajian Dulu dan Kini, which celebrates the fusion of traditional and contemporary dishes.

“The idea is to use dishes from our grandmother’s time and mix these unique flavors with modern innovations,” chef Mohamad Zulkarnean Suhaili told FMT Lifestyle. One of the most attractive offerings on the dinner table will be kambing golek, a whole lamb cooked in spices. Fragrant and roasted to perfection, the meat is delicious, sweet and enjoyed with roasted vegetables and dishes. Don’t forget to add black pepper or mint sauce on the side to enhance the taste. Not a fan of sheep? Then try ayam golek, which is attractive and delicious. You can also find the classic bubur lambuk daging here. Warm and comforting with a little bit of sweet meat mixed with porridge, it’s the perfect introduction to what will be a very satisfying meal. Beef lovers will be delighted to find Australian shank kerutup beef. Rich, aromatic and full of flavours, this is a delicious curry dish that is a favorite with nasi minyak. On the other side of the dining area, there is a large selection of seafood, well served in the fridge.

There is also a selection of cooked seafood, including ikan masak lemak cili api, sotong tumis sambal belacan and gulai udang.

There is also a noodle station, where diners can choose the type of noodles and condiments they like, and customize their dishes with nyonya curry laksa or vegetarian dishes. Of course, it won’t be a perishable food without a date. There are many types of dates to choose from, including Medjool, Mariami, Rotab and Ajwa. Visit the Indian kitchen for more delicious treats. Enjoy your favorite dishes like chicken kadai, lamb varuval, jackfruit tikka masala and many more. You also have a choice of tandoori chicken or fish tikka, sweet and naan varieties such as butter, garlic and cheese. For Chinese food fans, the kitchen is also located in one part of the restaurant. Splurge on options such as grilled chicken, steamed barramundi with black bean sauce, twice-cooked country chicken parfait and wok-fried tiger with black sauce. If there is still room for dessert, try making your own ice at the Kacang Ice Car with condiments of your choice.

Sweet treats like ice cream, pastries, nyonya kuih and Malay biscuits will end your meal in style. It is said that there are also many fritters, including sweet potato, banana and even king musang, to choose from? During Ramadan, apart from Mondays, you can also enjoy the melodious music of the local band Midnight Melody, who feasts with beautiful Raya songs such as Selamat Hari Raya and Dendang Perantau.
