It is an Indonesian panacea that wakes up every morning. Bright, warm and uplifting,
it’s everything you need to keep your routine going and healthy. The preparation of jam varies depending on where you are in Indonesia. For example, in Bali, an element of lemongrass is added. Overall, the two main ingredients that make up this flavor bomb are fresh turmeric and ginger. Flavoring is added, usually with tamarind, lime or lemon. To make it sweet, palm sugar or honey is added to the elixir to balance the sharp notes of ginger and to soften the taste of the selected sour fruit.
This is an easy recipe to make, but if you’ve never worked with fresh turmeric, know that it tends to go bad and stick to everything. Therefore, when you mix the ingredients, it would be better to use glass or stainless steel.
But in general, it is really worth it. The jam is easy to store in the refrigerator or freeze as ice cubes for when you need a cold smoothie boost. Serve hot and fresh, or cold – either way, it will be amazing. Efrata
18 cm of fresh turmeric
15 cm of ginger
Length 10 cm
1/2 freshly squeezed lemon
4-5 teaspoons of palm sugar (or honey to taste)
800 ml of water
Procedure
Cut turmeric, ginger and galangal into 1 inch pieces. Mix it with lemon juice and 200 ml water until you get a good balance.
Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer. Use a spoon to squeeze the remaining pulp to release as much water as possible. Once the liquid is thoroughly drained, remove it. Heat a deep pan over low heat. Add liquid to 600 ml water. Mix and let everything soften for 20 minutes.
Add palm sugar or honey to taste and serve hot or allow to cool completely before refrigerating. There you have it – you have a new panacea ready for the morning!
